Halloween Witch Hat Banner Tutorial

Take 2 is finally ready to share. If you missed the first Halloween banner I posted, you can see it here. From working on the first banner I got the idea to turn the triangles upside down and make them into witch hats.

Here's a quick little tutorial on how to make your own little witchy hat banner.

You'll need:

• template
• fabric (ironed)
• batting (by the yard)
• black felt
• pinking sheers
• thread/sewing machine
• embellishments
• ribbon or some other means to hang them up

First print out your template. I used this freebie printable from Belle's Printables. I printed the template out as a 5x7 rather than the full page. Trace your template onto your fabric, batting, and felt and cut them out. Each hat takes one of each.

Place them one on top of the other in this order- felt on bottom, batting in the middle, and fabric on top. This will make them sturdy and keep their shape. Pin all three together.

Sew a 1/4-inch seam around your triangle. I left the bottom open but you can choose to sew it closed. It doesn't really matter either way.

Cutting close to your outer edge use your pinking sheers and go around your triangle.

Didn't realize I didn't get a photo of this part so I'll try to explain it to the best of my ability. Cut out two pieces of felt 1x5.5 inches for the brim. Fold them in half long way and cut the ends at a slant. Then attach them to the bottom of your hat placing one in the front and one in the back. Glue or sew them together. Then use a few embellishments to finish it off.

Cut a small piece of ribbon and glue it onto the back of your witch hat close to the top making a loop. Slide it onto some ribbon, rick rack, or bias tape and there you have it. A fun Halloween banner.

As you can see I added some small strips of ribbon in between each hat as well.

Take three is done as well. I printed the same template at full size and used the 5X7 template as well to make the triangles different heights. I added some rickrack and bias tape for some extra detail.
